Barcelona sketchbook: Part Two

Plaça Espanya, on the Western side of the city:

A rough sketch of one of the many Picasso “Las Meninas” (which are themselves a series of meditations on the Velázquez painting):

Down the street from Casa Battló, there was a group of young African men selling black market handbags. Each of them stood at their ‘shop’ with drawstrings in hand, keeping a wary eye for police.

Waiting my friend back in Cerdanyola del Valles, I was hanging out in the town square, which was very lively with locals in the evening. So I secreted a sketch of some old timers — the señor in the striped shirt was especially cheerful and talking a blue streak.

Barcelona sketchbook: Part One

I just got back from holiday in Spain, where I did some sketching in between gawking at all the fantastic art and architecture. Here are some pseudo-watercolors from Photoshop.

Gaudí’s Casa Milá, also known as La Pedrera, has a wildly imaginative rooftop:

One rainy day I spent at the Picasso Museum, getting perspective on the master’s life work. One of the formal rooms:

One of Gaudí’s first projects was to design the centerpiece fountain at Parc de la Citudella (City Park):
